Beneficiaries of Omega 3 – Heart, Brain, and Skin



Who would have thought that Omega 3 has its three major beneficiaries as the important and sensitive parts in our body? It is now a new talk in the society which discusses the benefits and sources of omega 3 that greatly affects the main points in our body.

The three polyunsaturated fatty acids such as Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) are what composed the Omega 3 which is very crucial for our health. However, these three fatty acids cannot be synthesized and break down by our body so we rely on our diets to have and obtain them.

Among all the foods found in Earth, manufactured by man or nature-produced, the most common and the richest source of Omega three is the fish. But there are also other sources of Omega 3. You can obtain Omega 3 on the vegetables specifically the green leafy ones which are plant-based sources of fatty acids such as spinach, broccoli, tofu, cabbage, soybeans and cauliflower. You can also find ALA fatty acids in walnuts, hemp seeds, flaxseed oil, canola oil and sunflower oil, however ALA fatty acids has to be converted first into EPA and DHA in order to be processes and absorbed by the human body. Fish oil which is extracted from the Hoki fish has 40% higher DHA content than other oils. Hoki is a cold-water species found in New Zealand that has naturally high levels of DHA and EPA.

As I have said before, there are three main beneficiaries of Omega 3 and they are the heart, brain and the skin. These three parts of our body are very essential on us that’s why their health is to be valued and of importance.

First is the heart. The importance and use of EPA and DHA to the body is making and keeping our heart at its best condition. Fish oils reduce triglycerides in our blood and increase the HDL cholesterol levels as a result it reduces the risk of coronary heart diseases. They also have blood thinning properties which improves the blood flow throughout our body causing the prevention of blocking of arteries and clogging of platelets that can lower the chances of heart strokes or sudden cardiac arrest.

Second is the brain. DHA is known as the building block of the brain while EPA is known as the controller of communication between nerve cells and the brain. Omega 3 fish oils are best recommended by the professionals to people suffering from depression, schizophrenia, memory loss, low I.Q and other mental disorders and mental problems.

Third is the skin. Fish oils are good medicines for skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis and various allergies. They are known to improve the skin’s condition dramatically making it soft, radiant and problem-free.

And lastly, Omega 3 also poses as a great medicine for individuals who are prone to cancer and suffers from arthritis and other kinds of joint diseases. EPA and DHA have benefits that include the prevention of cancer. The essential fatty acids trigger the secretion of Sphingomyelinase, an enzyme that inhibits the growth of cancerous cells. Thus, regularly consuming fish oils will prevent you against breast, colon and prostate cancer. Regular consumption of fish oils can provide relief from joint inflammation and joint problems such as arthritis, cystitis etc. The EPA and DHA fats present in fish oils strengthen the joints and improve mobility.

There are a phenomenal number of omega 3 benefits on health which makes it absolutely vital to include these essential fatty acids in our daily diets.
