Why you should cut down on smoking slowly

If you’re a smoker and think that quitting may be the best thing to do for your long-term health, you’re probably not alone, as thousands, if not millions of people have probably harboured similar thoughts. It is common knowledge that smoking isn’t the easiest thing in the world to give up, and finally saying no to cigarettes feels like a massive victory. Those of you who think just stopping smoking straight away will be easy may not realise that doing that might not be ideal.

Quitting smoking ‘cold turkey’ may be hard, as it’s less likely to result in you successfully quitting. You may get withdrawal symptoms from missing the nicotine that makes cigarettes so addictive, which may result in you taking it up again. The best thing to do when you want to give up the habit is to do it slowly. Aids like those on are ideal, especially electronic cigarettes. They replicate cigarettes in almost every way, but are almost completely harmless and have adjustable nicotine levels which you can lower as you smoke it less.


Setting yourself a target of using your aids less over several intervals could work. That way, you ease yourself into having less nicotine, meaning your body has time to adjust to the changes. Medical experts believe that it takes a few days for cigarette cravings to lose their power, while they also say that its 12 weeks before the brain starts to calm down through having less nicotine, so you should give yourself time when trying to quit for good.
